A trip to Buda and Pest. Sweet and hearty memories.

It's been a while now already, but the memories are still fresh. Beautiful Budapest, divided by the Danube into the calmer and classy Buda on the western and the lively and lovely Pest on the eastern side of the river. Very European architectural wise, and friendly by heart, Hungary is political wise in discussion. I was asking myself why the government is so undemocratic, euro-sceptic and antisocial, whereas the people give everyone a warm welcome and make you feel comfortable right away.

Staying in the center of Pest, for example in a cozy Airbnb apartment in an art deco building, gives you the most comfortable opportunity to explore main neighborhoods on this side such as the Jewish district. Besides the famous synagogue you will find charming cafés, bars, design and vintage shops as well as street-art in this shabby chic area. A stroll in streets like Kazinczy with the food truck / stand area "Street Food Karavan", the café and bar Szimpla Kert.

Not to miss out either are the St. Stephans Basilika, Andrassy street with landmarks like the Opera and the House of Terror (Terror Haza), a memorial reminding everyone of the two terror regimes Hungary had to deal with in the 20th century. During 1937 it was a prison and after the revolution in 1956 it became the center of the communist youth association.

Although Zona restaurant is interior wise a very pretty one, the dining experience itself is average and the much better restaurants are found in the main parts of Buda. The beautiful bistro Déryné is a true gem - pretty and pretty delicious! One of our favorites. Second one, and perfect for Sunday breakfast (if you are not too late - after 11 a.m. it gets difficult), is Baltazár: a nice brunch and lunch place located in a boutique hotel, charming with red studded leather benches, metal chairs and wooden tables, delicious egg dishes and more and again very friendly people making your stay warm.

Finishing with a walk n the castle area in Buda is always a good idea and the views are stunning ...
